Job Description

BTI Systems has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Technical Project Manager within the APAC region. In this position you will play a strategic role in providing timely delivery of technical and project management support for BTIís APAC professional services business. This regional role is responsible for scheduling professional services projects, installations, field deployments, upgrades and partner management services across all BTI supported areas of Asia including Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Australia and Thailand. This position will be based in Singapore or Malaysia.
  • Providing project management support for all professional service, paid billable projects across APAC (e.g. Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar).
  • Developing project plans, initiating kick-off calls and conducting regular communication updates to all stakeholders during the course of professional services projects.
  • Managing the scheduling of technical resources and partners in the delivery of implementation projects to meet customer project expectations.
  • Providing on-site project management support for major projects.
  • Working closely to guide, manage and direct regional partners and BTIís professional field engineering teams in Malaysia, Singapore and China.
  • Creating and updating project documents, network configuration diagrams, acceptance test results and other project related documents related to professional services engagements.
  • Establishing a repeatable methodology for delivering on time, on-budget projects which takes into account the changing customer environments and technical challenges which occur during each project.
  • Managing field logistics and operational delivery of systems, parts and products to their intended destinations to meet customer objectives.
  • Conducting some level of hands-on installation, provisioning and diagnostics based on technology deployed at the customer site.
  • Providing basic BTI product training to customers, partners and shareholders.
  • Identifying, communicating and implementing change-orders on projects which have drifted beyond original SOW requirements.
  • Assisting local team in driving the service partners to ensure continued excellence in delivery and adherence to training and certification milestones.
  • Assigning resources to deliver customer training both on-site and remote.
  • Conducting project closure meetings with the customer and gaining signatures to project acceptance forms.
  • Assisting the local team in developing, communicating and assisting in the sales of service generating professional services programs and initiatives.
  • Working closely with BTI Engineering, Solutions and Operations customer personnel for excellence in customer deployments particularly associated with introduction of BTI's expanding portfolio offerings.
  • Reporting weekly progress on status of all projects.
  • Identifying and driving professional service revenue across APAC.
  • Requires a minimum of 50% domestic travel in Asia and occasional international travel to North America.

Job Requirements

  • Graduate degree from university in computer science, management or telecommunications, with industry accredited certification (e.g. Cisco, Juniper, Nortel) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of project management experience, PMP certification strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of customer facing, post-sales, hands-on experience across APAC with multiple layers of technologies, including IP/MPLS, Carrier Ethernet, SDH, DWDM, OTN, ROADM.
  • Proven hands-on experience in both deploying and managing optical DWDM networks, SDH networks, MPLS networks, IP networks in carrierís environment and data center environment.
  • A minimum 5 years progressive experience in a technical project management role.
  • Demonstrated level of technical problem-solving expertise in optical networking products, and/or Layer 2 and Layer 3 products, with ability to handle and resolve complex technical issues.
  • 2-5 years prior experience with some or all the following technologies:
    • Optical Networking Equipment
    • CWDM/DWDM
    • Layer 2 Ethernet and MEF Standards
    • SNMP and general network management expertise
    • Optical and Packet Test Equipment
    • Linux operating systems
  • Rapid comprehension and assimilation of product engineering information with particular emphasis on optical networking, DWDM, telecommunications, Ethernet, Linux and industry standard such as MEF.
  • 2-5 years proven track record in project management with demonstrable prior-project success in managing complex multi-national telecommunications projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills coupled with the ability to communicate with various functional levels.
  • Conversational written and verbal skills in Mandarin/Cantonese/ preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while at the same time maintaining a strong collaboration model with technical support and engineering resources.
  • Proven experience in providing leadership within a team of technical support professionals from multiple countries and various cultures.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Exceptional presentation skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to work under tight timelines and budgetary guidelines.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated with ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities.
